I understand what you are trying to say HW. I found a verse for you.
Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
So what you are saying is that depending on the verse, the scriptures could be talking about the nation of israel or sometimes about those who are true jews in the spiritual sense.
Are you prepared to fly in the sky in 2011?

Or it could be within the context of the scripture a metaphor to illustrate that a person's true identy is not as it appears outside but how it is inside, whether Jew or Christian.
